Early Monday morning, Tyson once again pulled out his tube. This continual act of protest and defiance against having foreign objects stuffed down his poor little nose was finally heard: his nurse decided not to reinsert his nasal gavage. Instead, she gave the little guy what he wanted -- a bottle!
Now, to some, this might seem like a trivial matter, for who hasn't seen a babe nursing on a bottle? But for Tyson, this is a milestone because:
1) he is now 100% tube-free!!!!!
2) he can now complete all his feeds orally, bringing him one step closer to fulfilling his requirements for discharge -- woohoo!
Being tube-free means that he now has to receive his vitamin and iron supplements orally as well. We were worried how he would react to the taste of these fortifying concoctions, since he decided to stop breathing the first time he tried it three weeks back (yup, he can be quite dramatic with his acts of protest; he nearly gave mom and dad a heart attack).
First up was the iron:
Hey lady, I'm a boy! I don't wear lipstick!
Ohhhhh, you want me to open up!
Hey, this isn't breastmilk!
Hmmm, not as bad as I remembered...
Next up: the vitamins
Uh-oh, here comes the really foul stuff...
Okay, we're a-okay!

That's awesome. Daddy323 will never be ready. Cynthia should just go out for an hour and let Clare learn on the fly. :)

Tube free! Way to go, Tyson! You tell those nurses! :) You're big and strong enough to be fed without those invasive tubes! I can't wait to hold you, too! But it looks like I'll have to take a number. :)
